Has Anyone Noticed Any Traffic from Blogrush?

Posted by Rick  Published in Blog Community

I’m just curious.  I’m thinking about removing my Blogrush widget.  I can see that I’m earning credits and I can see that I’m “using” those credits, but I’m really curious if anyone has ever clicked on a Blogrush link.  I hate to say it, but I haven’t, I frankly, I don’t think I ever will.  Most of the title is usually cut off due to lack of room, so you don’t ever seen anything eye-catching.  Plus, most sites, including my own, are afraid to put the widget anywhere that will distract or take away clicks from somewhere more meaningful on their site.

Mine is at the bottom of my sidebar.  If someone makes it that far down my page, then great, if not, I’d rather them focus on the “good stuff”, not just a bunch of unrelated links that will ultimately guide them away from my site.  I’m also getting a little frustrated about the fact that it’s still so “under construction”.  Sorry, I’m a data analyst by trade.  If I don’t see the data, the stats, I don’t see anything.

The first moment I feel not-so-lazy, I think my Blogrush widget is GONE.  Any thoughts?  I’d like to know what you all think.  Would I be stupid to get rid of it, or is everyone else on the same page?

I’ve Survived 10,957 Days of Life

Posted by Rick  Published in Blog Community, Personal

happy birthday to meI never thought I’d live to be this old.  I’m 30.  I don’t feel any different…  but that doesn’t change the fact that I already hate being 30.  Nothing like getting old, fat, and ugly year after year.

I still play games like crazy though and I still love acting like a kid.  Even though half of the time, I’m in pain the next day.  Just like my parents, I try to explain to our daughter how lucky she is to be a kid.  I don’t have [m]any regrets in life, but damn, I’d still do anything to be 7 again with all the wisdom I have now.

I got a ton of beer… some Fat Bastard wine, some Hypnotiq alcohol, a broken golf club, a huge party, and a 22 or 24 inch monitor (whichever I can afford with all my gift certs).  It sucks that there was a “30″ attached to it, but I guess it was kinda cool to have a birthday party for the first time in 9 years.  I don’t remember much of that one either :-)

Where’s the Line, When Do I Cross?

Posted by Rick  Published in Blog Community, Personal

I’ve always been wondering where the line is and when people cross it.  I’m talking about the line between working for the man and working for yourself.  A lot of people, myself included, work 8-5, or 9-3, depending on my golf schedule.  I’ve also got a family and a plethora of household duties.

What I’m wondering is where the line is between working all day and blogging all night… and quitting your day job, playing golf all day, and blogging all night.  Right now, and I know I’ve been slacking, I am working in some way or another, all night long from the time I get home til the time the Ambien kicks in.  Then I wake up, check a few stats because I’m a stat whore, and go to work for 9-10 hours and start it all over again.

You get to the point where you’re making good money during the day, but you hate having a boss… and to the point where you’re making moderate income on the side, but you don’t have enough time to devote to it to [potentially] make a living.  When do you make the leap and just go for it?  When do you sacrifice 100k for 20k with a potential of 200k?

That’s an easy question for my 20-year-old self…  10 years ago.  “F it.  I got nothing to lose”.  Well now, I’ve got more important things to worry about, like my wife and daughter… and oh yeah, that phone and electric bill that keeps everything  going.

My wife, in her prime actually made a few “daring” career decisions that landed herself in a nice position and in a nice job.  I never made those leaps, and I never took those risks, so here I am in my near-mid-life wondering what, where, when and how, when all I need to wonder is why not?  Technically, I have a good paying job, I kinda like what I’m doing, but goddamn, I hate the red tape, I hate the constraints, I hate traffic, whahhhhhh!

Anyway, I’m just wondering outloud.  How does one decide how and when they want to be an entrepreneur, or are you just born with it?  Because if you are, mayhaps I’m just meant to be a worker bee.  That’s fine with me though, that’s what I’ve planned for, and that’s what I’ve always done, I’m just curious as to why.

Ok, Same Post, Different Angle

Posted by Rick  Published in Blog Community, Uncategorized

MoneyOk, so just yesterday, I posed a question about all of the bloggers that have stated that they’ve quit their day job to blog for a living.  Granted, that’s kind of what all of us really want to do, but I thought of a different question this time.  How much were these people making at their day job.

Just reading through some of these sites, I’ve seen numbers thrown around like “make $1000 per week” or “make as much as $5000 per month by blogging”.  If that’s the case really, I think I might just have to suck it up and work for the man :-o

I guess that’s where the dilema is… you really have to be rolling with some good steady blog income to even consider quitting a “good” day job, and that’s where you really need to make that commitment and take the intial monetary blow and dive in head first.

No real point here, just thinking out loud.

Excellent Video That All of Us Can Relate To

Posted by Rick  Published in Blog Community, Funny

Ok, instead of embedding this for your benefit, I’m linking it for Lewis Empire’s benefit :-o  It’s an excellent video of an office meeting that makes fun of bloggers and readers like us.  Wait, that kinda sucks :-(

Check it out.  You’ll love it.

Of Bugs and Brats

Posted by Rick  Published in Blog Community, Funny

Just pointing everyone to a funny post over at Boston Brat’s Blog while at the same time making fun of her :-)  She’s battling bugs with Windex, so I figured I’d taunt her with a few of my own below.

It’s my way of starting a [fun] war between us (the whole Boston and St Louis thing), considering the football season starts tonight and baseball is getting ready for playoffs.

Also, more importantly, because it wasn’t too long ago that the Pats beat the Rams in the Bowl (thus beginning the decline of the Rams and the beginning of the Pats’ reign), and only 9 months later the BoSox destroyed the Cards in the World Series (thus beginning my hatred for ALL sox and socks and things that are red).
